KUALA TERENGGANU: The Credit Counselling and Debt Management Agency (AKPK) has received 7,790 registrations as of March 26, 2019 for the financial education portal launched in January, RumahKu.

Kuala Terengganu AKPK branch head Junainah Ahmad Esa said of the total, 6,664 registrants have completed nine modules and 991 have cancelled their intent to make a housing loan.

“The RumahKu portal is our latest initiative to raise financial literacy. The best way to educate the public is through online and this is important for first-time house buyers as buying a house is a big step,” she said at the 2019 Terengganu Financial Carnival here today.

The portal provides guidance, information and knowledge to prospective borrowers before they make a housing loan especially from Bank Negara Malaysia’s (BNM) Fund for Affordable Homes.

Modules include calculation of monthly payments, creating a personal budget, financial and non-financial factors to take into consideration, types of insurance, and advisory services available from AKPK.

Junainah said prospective home buyers wishing to make a housing loan under BNM’s affordable home scheme must complete this online module before making a loan from a participating financial institution.

She added that this financial education module is available at http://learn.akpk.org.my, adding the certificate is one of the important documents needed in the application for a first home under BNM’s affordable home fund.

However, she said, completion of the module is no guarantee that an individual’s loan application will be approved. – Bernama
