KUCHING: More than 590 civil servants from various Sarawak government agencies gathered this week for the Sarawak Public Service Quality Awards 2025 (AKPANS 2025) briefing sessions.

The session was organised by the Sarawak Transformation and Innovation Unit (STIU) under the Sarawak Premier’s Department.

Held across three days on April 8, 10 and 11, the sessions aimed to strengthen participants’ understanding of the AKPANS evaluation criteria while nurturing a culture of high performance and continuous improvement within the state’s public service.

STIU Director, Superi Awang Said, stressed that AKPANS is more than just a recognition programme.

He describes it as a strategic platform to empower government agencies through efficient, transparent and impactful management practices.

“A culture of excellence does not happen on its own.

“It requires principled leadership, consistent commitment, and active participation from every member of the organisation,” he said.

The sessions focused on the nine AKPANS 2025 evaluation criteria which are Organisational Leadership, Financial Management, Human Resource Management, ICT Management, Organisational Culture, Customer Management, Community Engagement, Organisational Achievements, and Future Sustainability and Resilience.

Superi also encouraged all participants to see AKPANS as a tool for innovation and renewal within their agencies, aimed at strengthening public trust through more responsive and result oriented services.

AKPANS 2025 is expected to become a key driver in promoting a culture of excellence in the public sector, aligning with the goals of the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030, which emphasises among others, high impact governance and more progressive service delivery.
