Airplane veers off runway, crashes at airport in South Korea’s Muan

MUAN (South Korea): A South Korean passenger airplane veered off the runway and collided with a fence at an airport in the southwestern city of Muan, Yonhap News Agency reported, citing police and firefighters said on Sunday.

The accident happened at 9.07am when the Jeju Air flight was landing at the Muan International Airport in South Jeolla Province, about 288 kilometres away from Seoul, the officials said.

The plane, with some 175 passengers and six crew members aboard, was returning from Bangkok.

Authorities were conducting an investigation on the site to determine the exact cause of the crash and rescue operations were also under way, the officials said. – BERNAMA-YONHAP
