BINTULU: The celebration of Hari Raya Aidilfitri is not only a time to mark the triumph after a month of fasting, but it also serves as an important avenue to strengthen family institutions in facing the challenges of today’s world.
According to Jepak assemblyman, Iskandar Turkee, the strength of any community begins at the most fundamental level — the family.
He noted that, in a world where society faces various social, economic, and cultural pressures, family values must be upheld to maintain community stability.
“Spend time with your parents, children, and relatives. Appreciate and love one another, for it is from this that the strength of a village and society emerges. A strong family institution will produce a generation that is disciplined, well-mannered, and of noble character,” he said.
He expressed this during the Aidilfitri Thanksgiving Ceremony at Masjid Darul Makmur, Kampung Jepak, on Friday night, where he was represented by Penghulu Idil Ismail.
In addition to emphasising the importance of preserving family relationships, Iskandar also called for mosques to continue serving as hubs for community unity.
He said that mosques should not be viewed solely as places of worship, but also as centres for bringing the community together through various educational, welfare, and social programmes.
The Jepak assemblyman also expressed confidence that a harmonious family unit can raise youth who not only succeed in life, but also have the awareness and drive to contribute back to their hometowns and become positive agents of change.
He further hoped that the Aidilfitri celebration would act as a catalyst for the people of Jepak to live in greater unity, harmony, and with strong family values — while continuing to uphold traditions of mutual respect and community support.
Also present were Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang Leong Ming and special officer to the Bintulu Member of Parliament, Azman Abdul Rahman.
