BINTULU: Artificial intelligence (AI) plays a crucial role in strengthening the relationship between youth and adults to enhance digital literacy among the younger generation, said Associate Professor Dr Mohd Mursyid Arshad, Director of the Co-Curriculum and Student Development Centre at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).

In his keynote address, titled “The Role of AI in Youth-Adult Partnership for Digital Literacy”, at the International Putra Bakti@Youth Digital 2025 Forum recently, he emphasised that AI is not merely a technological tool but a mechanism capable of bridging the knowledge gap between generations and enhancing youth understanding in the digital era.

“AI creates opportunities for more effective interactions between young people and more experienced individuals.

“With AI, digital learning can be tailored to individual needs, accelerate understanding of technological concepts, and provide access to a broader range of educational resources,” he said.

He also highlighted that the combination of AI and adult guidance can help young people utilise technology positively — not just as users but also as innovators and digital content creators.

“Digital literacy is not just about understanding technology but also about how we use it responsibly and ethically.

“With the right approach, AI can serve as a catalyst for character development and youth competitiveness on a global scale,” he added.

The forum, held at TEGAS Digital Innovation Hub, Bintulu, was organised by students of QKK2101 Bakti Siswa (Group 2), Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Sarawak Campus (UPMKB), in collaboration with Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (TEGAS), the Co-Curriculum and Student Development Centre (PKPP) UPM, Universitas Borneo University Consortium (KUUB), and Youth Leadership and Entrepreneurship (YLE2025).

This programme aligns with the university’s goal of producing a digitally literate and competitive youth generation in the modern economic landscape.

The forum also featured various sessions on digital marketing, photography, career development, and digital design, providing young people with opportunities to explore and understand the importance of technology in both daily life and the professional world.
