LAWAS: The Ulu Merapok area is set to be developed as an agricultural centre here.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the plans for the Ulu Merapok area involved the development of stalls, cottage industries, wet markets (pasar tamu) and other facilities related to agriculture.
“Here, we are grateful for the fertile land which is suitable for planting and for agro-development.
“So, let’s cultivate the land with fruits and vegetables so that our food supply remains plentiful,” he said.
He said during the breaking-of-fast event with the community and distribution of assistance to the less privileged group in Kampung Ulu Merapok here recently.
Awang Tengah, who is also the Bukit Sari assemblyman, called on the people to enhance their skills and utilise new and modern technologies.
On another note, he called on the people of Lawas to respect each other even though they came from various ethnicities and religions.
In the same event, he distributed assistance to 100 needy individuals from three villages, namely, Kampung Sasa, Kampung Tanah Sibagol, and Kampung Bukit Puan.
