KUCHING: A single-storey wooden house in Kampung Bungai Bekenu in Miri was partially destroyed in a fire recently.

10 personnel in a fire engine, a water tanker and an EMRS vehicle from Miri and Lopeng fire stations were deployed to the scene after they received an emergency call at 2.32pm.

According to State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), 40 per cent of the house was destroyed in the incident.

An occupant, believed to be mentally ill, was said to have fled the scene after seeing the firefighters.

The department said the fire was put out by Bekenu volunteer firefighters, assisted by villagers, using an open water source in the area.

The actual cause of the fire was still under investigation.
