KUCHING: The Association of Churches in Sarawak (ACS) warmly invites the public to join the Christmas service on Dec 19 at 7.30pm at the Christian Ecumenical Worship Centre here.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday (Dec 17) Anglican Bishop of Kuching, Rt Revd Datuk Danald Jute reflected on the ongoing turmoil in regions like the Middle East and Ukraine, saying that human greed and power struggles are at the core of these conflicts.
“The world needs Christmas. The world needs Christ,” he said.
He stressed that Christmas transcends religious boundaries and serves as a beacon of hope for all humanity.
“We proclaim Christ as the Prince of Peace, the Light of the World, and hope for the nations,” Rt Revd Danald said, urging people to embody the true spirit of Christmas by fostering peace and reconciliation in their communities and beyond.
Roman Catholic Archbishop of Kuching Dato Dr Simon Poh echoed these sentiments, urging Sarawakians to begin peacebuilding within their own hearts, families, and communities.
“Christmas is a time of hope and goodwill. It is a reminder for us to return to God’s love and to forgive and embrace one another.”
He highlighted the role of the Christian Ecumenical Worship Centre as a space for inclusivity and interfaith unity, noting that friends from different faiths are welcome to join the upcoming Christmas service.
“Let this season be one of giving—not just material gifts, but the gifts of our time, talent, and kindness to bring about peace and hope to society.”
Reflecting on the global conflicts, he also reiterated the church’s commitment to humanitarian efforts, particularly in war-torn areas like Gaza and Syria.
“We pray and intercede for world peace, and as God comes to live among us, Emmanuel, we hope people will find the goodness and righteousness to do what is right and just.”
