Accident claims man’s life after collision with parked excavator

SIBU: A man died when the car he was travelling in rammed into a parked excavator at Jalan Nanga Tutus here last night (Mar 30).

According to Sibu Fire and Rescue Department Zone 4 chief Andy Alie, a team of personnel from Sungai Merah fire and rescue station promptly responded to the accident following a distress call at 9.30pm.

“Upon reaching the scene, the team found that the incident involved a car that crashed into the back of an excavator parked in the middle of the road.

“Meanwhile, further inspection found that the 57-year-old victim was unconscious at the driver’s seat,” he said in a statement today (Mar 31).

Andy said that the firefighters used the rescue tool to help extricate the victim from the car.

“He was confirmed dead by the medical officers at the scene,” he said.

The victim was then handed over to the police for further action.
