KUCHING: Malaysia’s fifth Prime Minister, Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, who died on Monday, made a significant impact through his contributions to regional development, particularly through the establishment of the Tanjung Manis Halal Hub.
Urban Planning, Land Administration, and Environment Deputy Minister, Datuk Len Talif Salleh, said Abdullah was one of the nation’s top leaders who showed deep commitment to rural development and the halal industry in Sarawak.
“He once visited my constituency in Tanjung Manis, and officially launched the Tanjung Manis Halal Hub in 2009.
“I see his passing as a great loss to both the nation and to Sarawak, as he played a major role in developing my area,” he said.
Len Talif, who is also Kuala Rajang assemblyman, said this when met at the Sarawak Forest Department’s (JHS) Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration held at Wisma SABATI today.
He added that, through his experience in public service, he witnessed Abdullah’s commitment towards improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the public service delivery system.
The Tanjung Manis Halal Hub, located at Tanjung Manis, Sarawak, is part of the Tanjung Manis Economic Growth Area (T-MEGA).
It focuses on the halal sector, including the production and processing of halal food.
The hub is a key component of Sarawak’s strategy to achieve food self-sufficiency and position itself as a net exporter of food.
It features infrastructure and facilities designed to support agro-based industries, attract investment, and boost the growth of the halal sector.
