KUALA LUMPUR: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has been awarded as an Honorary Fellow of the Malaysian Institute of Planners (MIP) for his exceptional leadership in driving Sarawak’s transformation.
The award was presented by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to Abang Johari during the MIP 2024 Planning Excellence Awards Ceremony held at a prominent hotel in Kuala Lumpur yesterday (Jan 24).
According to MIP, Abang Johari was selected for this recognition due to his exemplary leadership through initiatives in urban development, energy, and environmental sustainability.
He also spearheaded the transformation of Sarawak through global initiatives aligned with the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, achieving high-income regional status for Sarawak in 2022, seven years ahead of schedule.
“Abang Johari also has led Sarawak to become a global pioneer in green economy initiatives, aiming for zero carbon emissions by 2030,” said MIP.
At the same ceremony, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development (MUDeNR) also received the MIP President’s Award for excellence in transforming state planning governance through the digital innovation of the Sarawak Electronic State Planning Authority System.
Receiving the award were State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration, and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh, and MUDeNR Permanent Secretary Datuk Abdullah Julaihi.
