KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s working visit to Cambodia beginning tomorrow (Dec 7) seeks to strengthen collaboration between the country and Malaysia, especially Sarawak, in pursuing mutual objectives.
According to Regional Islamic Da’wah Council of Southeast Asia and the Pacific (RISEAP) secretary Datuk Mohamad Marzuki Mohamad Omar, Abang Johari, who serves as the RISEAP president, will attend the 20th RISEAP general assembly.
He also said that RISEAP continues to play a role in nurturing an excellent Muslim community by instilling a resolute and successful purpose in life.
“The main objective of the Sarawak Premier’s visit to Cambodia is to personally observe the lives of the Muslim community, which has long been established in the country, comprising approximately 700,000 Muslims,” he said during a media interview on Thursday (Dec 5).
Marzuki added that RISEAP’s responsibility is to collaborate with Muslim communities in its member countries.
“We have 24 member countries and two associate countries.
“The principle of RISEAP is to create an outstanding and distinguished Muslim community, particularly in the field of finance, where we work together to provide them with ‘freedom of finance’,” he said.
He said that RISEAP is expected to visit South Korea, which has a minority Muslim population, in July or August next year, following their previous visit to New Zealand.
During Abang Johari’s working visit to Cambodia, he is also expected to meet the Cambodian Prime Minister immediately after the RISEAP general assembly.
