KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg received his second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine at the Stadium Perpaduan, Petra Jaya today.
He was in a jovial mood when a nurse was about to vaccinate him at 3.03pm.
The nurse who administered the vaccine was 45-year-old Iffah Marcelina Peter Chanyi from Serian. She was assisted by 44-year-old Juliet Tijun from Belaga.
Both Iffah and Juliet are serving at the Petra Jaya Health Clinic.
Besides Abang Johari, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian also received their second dose of the vaccine.
Also receiving their second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine were State Health Department director Dr Chin Zin Hing and Kuching Division Health officer Dr Eunice Melissa Joseph.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas was present to witness the vaccination programme.
Sarawak’s first phase of the immunisation programme was rolled out on Feb 26.
Abang Johari, Awang Tengah, Dr Sim, and Dr Chin received their first dose of the vaccine at the Petra Jaya Health Clinic on Feb 26.
According to the Special Committee on Covid-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee (JKJAV) in a post on Twitter, as of 11.59pm on Mar 16, a total of 32,465 Sarawakians have been vaccinated.
A total of 2,019,431 Sarawakians are eligible for the Covid-19 vaccinations, while another 200,000 non-Sarawakians currently in the state will also get the free vaccine.
In the first phase of the state’s vaccination programme until Mar 31, a total of 97,161 frontliners will be inoculated.
While the second and third phases will be from the end of March to August this year, inoculating 929,435 people in high-risk groups and another 992,834 people who are above 18-years-old.
JKJAV also reported that the latest registration numbers for the vaccine in Sarawak as of Mar 18, was recorded at 466,037.
Sarawkians who are eligible but have yet to register are encouraged to register for the vaccine via the various method on MySejahtera mobile application, www.vaksincovid.gov.my website, call the 1800-888-828 hotline, or go to the nearest district offices or through the respective community leaders and Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) for registration.
