SPAOH: The Islamic Religious Trust Board of Spaoh (Lakis) expects work to relocate about 200 graves threatened by erosion in Serai Muslim Community Cemetery to take about a week.

Its chairman Dr Abang Ismail Abang Julhi said Lakis has allocated Dec 16 to 21 to do the job, subject to the weather.

“So far, that is the date we recommend after almost all aspects (including preparation) have been completed by Lakis.

“The new location has been cleared and should be ready soon,” he said when met by reporters yesterday.

He said Lakis as the authority overseeing the shift has called for the cooperation of the families of the dead.

“We really do not want the implementation delayed.

“Moreover, the Sarawak government has helped ease the grave shift process by channelling RM243,000 as well as approving and providing 12.6 acres of land which have been gazetted as an additional area for the burial ground,” he said.
