RB launches inaugural flight to Bintulu

BINTULU: Royal Brunei (RB) Airlines on Tuesday launched its inaugural flight to Bintulu through its RB Link service.  Using the ATR 72-600 aircraft, the first flight from Bandar Seri Begawan arrived at Bintulu Airport at 8.25pm, carrying 30 passengers comprising RB Airlines crew as well as representatives of Brunei’s national media.

Also joining the delegation was RB Digital and Marketing senior vice president James Millet.

Their arrival was welcomed by Bintulu District Officer Muhammad Dino Amid and Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad Route Development senior manager Zainuddin Mohamed.

During the event, Millet was delighted RB was the first international airline to fly to Bintulu.

“Sarawak is already one of our most popular  destinations by land and with flights to Kuching from our hub, Brunei International Airport.

“We are delighted to introduce Bintulu as our next destination. We will be operating five flights a week, using a brand new ATR 72-600 operated by our business partner Malindo Air.

“Our RB Link product is designed to connect Brunei with destinations across Borneo Island and help boost tourism and trade in the region.

“From Brunei, an emerging international hub, our guests can connect seamlessly to any of RB’s international routes such as non-stop London, the Australian cities of Brisbane and Melbourne, Tokyo, Seoul and six Chinese cities.

“Travelling via Brunei is not only convenient, you have access to value fares on a full service five-star airline.

“In addition, the airport is modern and easy to transit in  compared to regional alternatives,” he explained.

RB Link is a new service launched last July that connects Brunei with the cities in Borneo through a partnership with Malindo Air.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) Marketing director Benedict Jimbau, in a statement, said STB viewed the strategic partnership with RB as a tool to promote Sarawak through the Visit Sarawak Campaign.

He added he was confident the new route would give tourists a chance to experience a variety of service products as well as new destinations besides meeting the travel needs of tourists outside Bintulu and the business community.
