Group to showcase state’s cultural diversity in KL, Penang

KUCHING: Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) Sarawak Branch in collaboration with the state government and P. Ramlee Sarawak Fans Club (KPPRS) plan to stage the Sarawak Cultural Performance Programme 2017 in Kuala Lumpur and Penang as well as ‘Syarahan Negarawan Negeri Sarawak’ in developing Sarawak’s language, literature and culture in Peninsula Malaysia.

A member of DBP Management Board, Datu Dr Adi Badiozaman Tuah said that the cultural show programme was a performance showcase filled with acting, dance and modeling elements, music, singing, traditional poetry and Sarawakian songs.

“It is compiled into a compact package in two segments with their respective goals to enhance the audience’s knowledge on the diversity of Sarawak cultural arts.

“Performances by KPPRS and various songs of the late Tan Sri P. Ramlee and his contemporaries in the style and capabilities of KPPRS art children by showing their special talents in stage performances,” Dr Adi said at a press conference in conjunction with the preview of Sarawak Cultural Performance at Balai Budaya, Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, Petra Jaya on Friday night.

The Sarawak Cultural Performance 2017 will be held at Auditorium Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, Kuala Lumpur on 13 July starting 8pm while the presentation programme at Dewan Budaya Auditorium, Universiti Sains Malaysia will be held on 14 July starting 8pm.

“In the ‘Syarahan Perdana Program’ this time will feature Sarawak’s statesman who will deliver a message about the struggle of Malay and literature in Sarawak.

“The invited statesman is Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud and the programme will be held at the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Kuala Lumpur on 13 July at 10am,” he explained.

It is hoped that the programme will be able to re-enact the art and cultural performances, taking into account the value of knowledge sharing through art and cultural performances of Sarawak together with artistes and culturalists and communities in Peninsula Malaysia.
