KUCHING: Rosita Muhammad Ali is a 47-year-old mother with two teenage daughters. They lived a normal life until about a year ago when her husband suddenly disappeared and has not returned since.

Rosita’s eldest daughter studies in Mara but stays most of the time at the Laila Taib Welfare Complex, meaning when she isn’t with them, it is Rosita and her second daughter Nur Hazwani at home.

Nur Hazwani, 15, however, has mental disability. They live in a small room Rosita rents at Kampung Semerah Padi.

Rosita works as a daily paid cleaner, a job that barely covers her rent and basic expenses.

Some days she has to forego her job, thus her daily wage as well, to send Nur Hazwani for treatment at Sarawak General Hospital.

Last year Nur Hazwani was hospitalised for 22 days and for most of those days, Rosita also had to leave her job. Needless to say, life was tough for her.

Hope Place’s Kelvin Wan gives Rosita some ration during his recent visit to the mother of two.

Today Nur Hazwani’s health has improved a lot, but she needs medication on a daily basis.

Rosita still has no news from her husband and only receives RM200 monthly from the Social Welfare Department (JKM) for her disabled daughter.

Hope Place is helping this family with some basic food aid once every three months.

As is the case, Hope Place works with kind donors and contributors in order to reach out to people like Rosita and her daughters.

Hope Place appeals for more donors to come forward. Donors can contact Persatuan Kebajikan Harapan Kuching (PKHK) at 082-505987. Opening hours are from 8.30am to 5.30pm from Mondays till Fridays and 8.30am to 12.30pm on Saturdays.

PKHK, Hope Place for short, is currently helping more than 190 families/individuals. All donations are welcome and receipts will be given upon request.
