532 wildfires statewide

KUCHING: Some 532 wildfires were reported statewide from Aug 1 till yesterday.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak said yesterday alone recorded four wildfires, bringing the total areas involved to 2027.52 acres of bush, forest and peat areas.

Up to yesterday, two houses were affected by bush fires, with 10 percent damage at Kampung Sangki, in Simunjan, and another house Kampung Sedi, in Pulau Bruit a total loss.

The highest record reported in a day was 58 cases on Aug 10, Aug 11 (55), and Aug 12 (65).

On average, Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba Sarawak) has been fighting an average of 30 bush fires per day.

The peat fires as of yesterday involved Serian with one case, Sri Aman (1), Bintulu (1), and Miri (3). No new cases were reported in Kuching, Samarahan, Betong, Sibu, Mukah, Sarikei.

Ongoing fire fighting operations yesterday were in Taman Harmoni in Sri Aman, Jalan Marudi in Miri and in Kuala Baram.
