SPAOH: Longhouse dwellers in Betong district have been urged to vaccinate their dogs against rabies.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the state’s fifth phase of anti-rabies operation would be held in the district as well as in Sri Aman and Engkilili beginning July 31 to
Aug 3.

He gave the advice when visiting Rh Henry Ilon in Senunok Paku here on Wednesday.

He said that rabies was a very deadly disease and since its outbreak in 2017 , 18 people had died of it after they were bitten by rabid dogs.

Uggah said the state Veterinary Services Department would be visiting longhouses to offer free vaccination and to remove any strays in the three districts during the operation.

“Please use the opportunity to get your dogs vaccinated. Your dogs will not die after getting the vaccination.”

He added that they should treat the advice seriously as two dogs were tested positive for rabies at a longhouse, Rumah Samueh Adeng, in Engkilili two weeks ago.
