KUCHING: A software solution provider in Subang Jaya is in serious trouble after a total of 27 sets of ultra-high frequency (UHF) long range remote radio frequency identification (RFID) scanners were confiscated from its premises.
Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in collaboration with Subang Jaya Police Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) and the Standard and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (Sirim) raided the premises, owned by EID Technology Sdn Bhd, at UEP Subang Jaya, following a public complaint.
The company, if found guilty, is liable to a maximum fine of RM100,000 or six months jail or both.
The case will be investigated under Section 16 of the Communications and Multimedia Regulations (Technical Standards) 2000, for illegal possession of and with the intention to sell the communications equipment that were uncertified by Sirim.
MCMC expressed confidence that continuous enforcement would create greater awareness among businessmen against selling uncertified communications equipment.
“The use of uncertified communication gadgets could disrupt communications network frequencies and this would affect the quality of services,” MCMC said in a press statement issued in Cyberjaya, yesterday.
MCMC advised members of the public to buy only Sirim-certified communications equipment.
“You just have to check on the product labels or login in to https://ecomm.sirim.my,” the press
statement added.
