KUCHING: A total of nine mosques and suraus in the state received contributions from Sarawak State Mosque Welfare Trust Board (LAKMNS).
Such contributions were handed over in conjunction with the distribution ceremony of Bubur Masja-sa held at compound of Masjid Jamek in Petra Jaya here, yesterday.
Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg accompanied by General Manager of LAKMNS Haji Mohamad Sabry Othman handed over the contributions to the respective respresentatives of the recipients.
Earlier, Johari in his welcoming address thanked and commended the mosque management committees for taking initiatives to give alms during the month of Ramadan.
“Harmonious life between Muslims and non-Muslims in our State is very good because our government practises Dakwah Bil Hal.
“Dakwah Bil Hal is a kind of missionary that spreads Islamic teachings in both appropriate time and place and it is a missionary where we can be example to other races or country.
“When people understand our missionary and seeing our success, then they will try to reach out to Muslims and when close to our religion, they will learn the basics and then follow the teachings of Islam as additions in their daily lives,” he disclosed.
Apart from that, he also touched on the need to review the existing legislation, particularly related to the family.

“I have to account for Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali to carry this responsibility and she needs to see and review the existing legislation in the state.
“We are going to review some of our laws and if there are laws that need to be updated, then we will do it in accordance with the necessities of life at this time.
“We want to provide the best legal system especially related to family, children and women where we want justice for the oppressed,” he said, adding the issue of the dissolution of mix marriage (Muslim married to non-Muslim) would be preferred.
According to Johari, this study is ongoing and may take up to eight months to complete, and will be tabled in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) either in November or April next year.
Meanwhile, Assistant Minister of Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali said, she has met with the parties involved to review the existing legislation.
She stated that the existing laws need to be reviewed over time to further strengthen the laws in the state for the benefit of the people.
Also present at the event were Deputy State Secretary Datuk Misnu Haji Taha and Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) Mayor Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai.
