KUCHING: A family of four was left homeless after their house in Kampung Niup, Kota Samarahan was destroyed in a fire on Sunday afternoon.
However, no casualties or injuries were reported following the incident.
The homeless were Awang Ismali Awang Masri,44, his wife Suria Salleh,39, and daughters Dayang Nazihah,14, and Dayang Nabila,17.
State Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the department received a distress call at 2.35pm. Following the call, a team of firefighters from Tabuan Jaya fire station was then deployed to the location.
“When the firefighters arrived, the fire was at its peak but was brought under control half an hour later. The fire was fully put out at 3.48pm.
“The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still being investigated,” the spokesman said.
In an unrelated fire incident, a restaurant’s kitchen was partially destroyed by fire on Sunday.
Firefighters from Batu Lintang fire station rushed to the restaurant located at a commercial centre along Airport Road after receiving a distress call at 3.10pm.
The firefighters took about 15 minutes to put out the fire.
Firefighters from Padungan fire station were also deployed to the restaurant.
After the fire was completely put out, it was estimated that the premises was 45 per cent destroyed.
According to a Bomba spokesman, the fire was believed to have started from a freezer in the restaurant but the actual cause of the fire is still being investigated.
No injuries or casualties were reported in the incident. The operation ended at 5.15pm.
