DARO: The Sarawak government has provided more than RM3mil to implement multiple development projects in Sungai Lengan in the next five years.
Daro assemblyman Safiee Ahmad said the continuous funding proved that it was committed to helping people in that area.
A huge portion of the money would be used to implement public infrastructure projects such as roads, jetties and halls, among others, he said.
“This also shows that the people in Sungai Lengan are never abandoned. The state gives its attention to all the problems faced by the people,” he said at the launching of a social community mentorship programme and project to upgrade Rumah Bayang Dollah, Sungai Lengan here recently.
Safiee reminded the residents not to be influenced by propagandas and false promises, and to unite to preserve the rights of the state.
He said the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government would do its best to help the people in its entirety.
“In line with tonight’s programme, I hope that the Ketua Masyarakat and Ketua Kaum (KMKK) and also the local community would unite to prevent social problems such as drug abuse.
“Parents should give their full attention towards education so that their children are not left behind in today’s fast-paced development,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, Igan MP Ahmad Johnie Zawawi assured that longhouses and villages in Igan would not be left out in terms of development.
He explained that efforts to develop the area were still a priority and the matter was often brought up during the parliamentary sessions.
He urged the residents to be patient and continue supporting the state government.
“The Daro assemblyman and myself will always find new ways to solve the problems in this area, especially in terms of fundings from the state government…to be channeled to the Igan constituency and Daro.”
During the event, Safiee presented a donation of RM5,000 to Pemadam Sibu as well as 13 units of fire extinguishers to the Jawatankuasa Keselamatan dan Kemajuan Kampung (JKKK) Rumah Bayang Sungai Lengan.
The programme was organised by Sibu District Office and participated by various government agencies such as Sibu National Anti-Drug Agency, Sibu Works Department, Drainage and Irrigation Department, Land and Survey Department, Agriculture Department, Sibu Rural District Council, and Fire and Rescue Department as well as local community leaders.
