Things got heated up when Dr Ting Tiong Choon (DAP-Pujut) slammed the Amanah Saham Sarawak (Assar) booklet on the table while Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg was delivering his winding up speech at yesterday’s assembly sitting.
Ting wanted to seek verification regarding the last year’s depreciation of Assar value.
His act caught the attention of the Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth, and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who stood up and said, “Who are you to slam the Standing Order (SO) booklet in this August House (which is) not a place to show act of gangsterism!”
DUN Speaker Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar ordered Dr Ting to apologise or be referred to the disciplinary committee for his behaviour.
Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Talip Zulpilip stood for Karim, saying Dr Ting’s behaviour was inappropriate.
Ting finally gave in and apologised.
“If I did slam the booklet hard on the table, I am sorry…if I have offended anybody…But the two ministers need to get their eyes checked and glasses changed because I was not even holding the SO booklet.”
