KUCHING: The Health Department (JKN) would strictly monitor the cleanliness of all eateries including food stalls and food courts throughout the state.
It would conduct stringent checks and enforcement to ensure the food outlets strictly comply with the requirement to keep their premises clean at all times, said its state director Dr Jamilah Hashim.
“JKN is very concerned and pays serious attention to this issue of cleanliness and will carry out a thorough enforcement exercise to ensure operators of food outlets fully comply with the cleanliness requirements,” she added.
In line with this, she urged all food operators to give their full cooperation by adhering to good food handling ethics and practices.
The enforcement would be conducted by the department’s Food Safety Division through integrated exercise with the local councils and agencies.
The division’s enforcement personnel would also be carrying out regular spot check on the food premises, she added.
Dr Jamilah said under the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009 and Food Act 1983, it is mandatory for operators of eateries, among others, to ensure all food handlers undergo typhoid immunisation.
Operators who failed to comply with the requirement could be charged in court under the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009, Food Act 1983, she warned.
