SANDAKAN: The DAP candidate for the Sandakan by-election, Vivian Wong Shir Yee, has urged voters to pick an assemblyman who can serve the people well rather just oppose the new government.

She said there were many plans for Sandakan which were not yet fulfilled, especially those set by her late father Datuk Stephen Wong Ten Fatt, who was the Member of Parliament for Sandakan.

“I object to the opposition’s allegation that DAP cannot be depended on to protect the state’s rights.

“We (DAP) urge the people to elect someone who can manage and fulfil my father’s promises,” she told reporters after participating in the anti-plastics campaign on Pulau Berhala here today.

Wong was asked to comment on Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star) president Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan’s statement yesterday asking voters in Sandakan to restore the parliamentary seat to a local party during polling on May 11. – Bernama
