KUALA LUMPUR: Federal police Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) director, Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh will go on compulsory retirement from today after 35 years with the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM).
Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said following this, NCID deputy director Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat would be assuming Mohmad’s post in an acting capacity.
“Mohmad’s retirement is a big loss for the PDRM workforce because of his level of expertise, knowledge and experience that he was able to provide good leadership.
“I believe many in PDRM will miss him, especially those who had served under his supervision, as he might appear unassuming but was firm in leading his team,” he said at a news conference in conjunction with the handing-over of duty ceremony at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol), here, today.
Mohamad Fuzi said Mohmad’s expertise, wealth of knowledge and wide experience were the highlights of his leadership in PDRM, enabling the vision of the department under him to be executed and achieved with excellence.
Meanwhile, Mohmad noted that media friends were always helpful to the police force throughout his 35 years as a police officer.
“The police and media are very close. The media assist the police not just by disseminating news but also in solving cases.
“The media help to improve the image of the police too. Hopefully, at the same time, the media also do not create ‘disharmony’ among us,” said Mohmad.
He said that among the challenges he faced in the police force was handling high-profile cases which received wide media coverage.
He cited the case of the murder of deputy public prosecutor Kevin Morales as one such case when he was the CID director.
On another note, he hoped that with the cooperation of all parties, PDRM would remain relevant and strong. – Bernama
