Burning house saved by swift action of neighbours

KUCHING: A double-storey semi-detached house at Taman Nanas, Jalan Green, Sungai Maong here caught fire yesterday.

A distress call was received around 12.50am where the caller said that the fire started from the kitchen of the unoccupied house.

When residents in the area were alerted of the fire they immediately gathered to put out the fire using a fire hose before the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) team arrived at the scene.

A team of 10 firefighters led by Senior Fire Officer II Jemiran Kemis arrived at the location the fire had already spread to the kitchen ceiling of an adjacent house.

 

The firefighters were forced to break down the ceiling of the adjacent house to stop the fire from spreading further.

Twenty per cent of the unoccupied house was burnt while the adjacent house occupied by four people was 10 per cent burnt. However, no one was hurt in the fire.
