KUALA LUMPUR: The Islamic Development Department of Malaysia (Jakim) approved a total of 10,186 applications for Malaysia’s halal certificates up to March.

The Director of Malaysia’s Halal Council Secretariat of Jakim, Datuk Dr Sirajuddin Suhaimee, said there was an increase in the number of applications for halal certificates of at least 10 per cent each year.

“Based on the record for the last three years, the applications for the halal certificates had exceeded the 10 per cent. Jakim perceives this as a positive development among industry players because we know that there are groups who think that applying for the halal certificates from Jakim is difficult,” he said when approached by reporters at the Global Halal Summit (GHaS) 2019 here yesterday.

GHaS 2019 is the largest platform for the world halal industry players to share their knowledge through discussion sessions besides the opportunity to increase the halal community for the benefit of the global ummah.
