SIBU: Andrewson Sandai Setia from Tamin, Selangau near here who sang ‘Genggam Jariku’ by Gabriel Fairuz Louis won the Iban song Karaoke contest organised by SIBUfm at the compound of RTM Sibu here last Saturday night.

Augustine Ayom of Sarikei was the first runner-up while Henry Sufri of Sekuau was the second runner-up.

As the champion, Andrewson took home RM300, a medal and a certificate while Augustine took home RM200, a medal and a certificate. Henry received RM100, a medal and a certificate.

The guest-of-honor, Advisor of Parti Rakyat Sarawak for Tamin, Datuk Joseph Mauh officiated at the event.

Speaking at the event, Mauh said nowadays, Iban songs are becoming more popular and in demand by people from all walks of life.

“Encouraging demand to Iban songs can be seen through the involvement of several singers from all walks of life who are able to sing Iban songs,” he said, adding that the encouraging response to Iban songs has also brought about unity among our multi-racial society.
