BINTULU: Dayak Nation Institute (DANI) organised its third NCR forum and road show called ‘NCR: The Hidden Truth’ at a leading hotel here last Saturday.
A former Land and Survey officer, Mathew Jeluing, shared with the participants on the Sarawak Land Code especially under Section 6, Section 13, Section 18 and Section 28.
He also shared solutions over land issues and risks of the various sections of the Land Code.
A local NCR activist and DANI’s surveyor, Nikodemus Singgai talked on the importance for NCR land owners to do private mapping in order to safeguard their NCR land.
He also proposed that the NRC land owners do their own mapping or seek assistance from DANI.
Another speaker, Cobbold John talked on community empowerment.
Formerly from Pantu and a landowner himself Cobbold has experience in dealing with land cases.
His talk included NCR land bank strategy utilization-the monetization of NCR land bank and how to make Dayak millionaires by using their NCR lands.
The focus of the seminar was more on a practical, two-way communication instead of just speeches, with more emphasis in seeking solutions or resolutions to problems.
Most of the participants are NCR land owners and some of them are also involved in land disputes with private companies and the state government.
Last Saturday’s forum will be held in rural areas and smaller towns.
Through the forum it can be concluded that NRC land owners can survey their land effectively and do not need to wait for the government to do it.
According to Cobbold John, the next forum and road show will be held in Lawas after Gawai.
He also announced that DANI will hold a pre-Gawai dinner at Siburan Community Hall on 20 May.
