MIRI: Effective April 15, Miri City Council (MCC) will take stern action against errant traders who illegally occupy vehicle parking space.

City deputy mayor Julaihi Mohamad, when met after chairing the full council meeting yesterday, reminded owners of premises or individuals to abide by the restriction and not place any chair or their trading items on the parking lots.

“Action will be taken against those who illegally occupy the car parks by putting chairs or their trading items. We will impound their items and there would be no notices given,” opined Julaihi.

He added that the Local Authorities (Cleanliness) By-laws, 1999 and The Road Transport (Provisions of Parking Places) (Miri City Council) Order, 2006, prohibited people from using parking lots illegally.

“Therefore, we need cooperation from all business owners to vacant or not use parking lots illegally,” said Julaihi.

On the assessment rate payment, Julaihi reminded property owners to pay their assessment rates on time.

“The due date for the first half of this year would be on May 31, and this year around, we have another lucky draw programme with lucrative prizes up for grabs,” he said.

He added that all property owners were entitled to the lucky draws as long as they pay their assessment and outstanding bills.
