SIBU: Six Chinese graduates have been recruited out of 21 graduates in local councils this year, said Minister of Local Government, Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian.

“In 2015, only five Chinese were recruited into the Sarawak Civil Service, while six Chinese have been recruited this year. That is why it is not just the representation because there is a need for Chinese-speaking officers in the state civil service because local councils are the front liners and deal with all sorts of people, including the Chinese.

“Not all Chinese can speak English and Malay. Thus, there is a need for Chinese- speaking personnel in the civil service.

“This is possible because of Chinese participation in the government,” Dr Sim said at the installation ceremony of new office bearers of Sarawak Vui Neng Association for the 2017-2018 term at Kingwood Hotel here, yesterday.

He also lauded Sarawak Vui Neng Association which has been around for 115 years and has contributed a lot to the state.

Apart from that, Dr Sim also called on members of the association to help in bilateral trade ties between Malaysia and China because they have a lot access to China.

“We not only appreciate the unity among members of the Vui Neng Associations but also among Sarawakians so that together we can do more and fight a lot more for Malaysia,” he said.
