KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg’s response to the “termite” threat to Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) has been described as justifiable.
Speaking to New Sarawak Tribune today, Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) information chief Datuk Wilfred Rata Nissom said the chief minister had been “most patient to be able to tolerate this form of back-stabbing until yesterday (Wednesday)”.
“To me, if he was irritated or annoyed or even angered, his one single concern was the future of GPS, therefore, however he felt was immaterial. The fact is, he could no longer allow GPS to be exposed to threats from supposed friends,” he said.
Nissom, who is a close aide of PRS president Tan Sri Dr James Masing, was responding to New Sarawak Tribune’s Thursday headline story, ‘GPS rejects termites’.
According to Nissom, the “termites” the chief minister referred to had begun to show their destructive nature and that it was only right that the GPS chairman nipped the problem in the bud.
“GPS takes precedence. GPS must remain strong. GPS cannot afford to be weak because the future of this state is at stake.
“There are no two ways about it. What PSB (Parti Sarawak Bersatu) did threatened GPS and the future of the state and the people,” he said.
“Current politics at play is such that while GPS works to safeguard the interest of the state and its people, forces from outside are trying to defeat us at every turn.
“Outsiders have declared their position and interests, like it or not GPS must know its enemies, including the Trojan horse,” he added.
“It is in consideration of this that the chief minister refuses to fall for the old trick of declaration of support for him while PSB brazenly went all out to kill the component parties of GPS.”
Nissom, a one-time assemblyman, said PSB only had ill-intentions that it did not bother to conceal.
He said PSB openly attacked PRS, SUPP and PDP, clearly wanting to see the end of GPS.
“PSB wants to kill GPS but still thinks that it is doing a great service to the chief minister. This is sheer insolence, which is why the termites have no place in the GPS house.”
