MIRI: Utilities Minister Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi pledged government grants totalling RM125,000 to two longhouses near here.

Rumah Alo Anak Riang would receive RM25,000 while Rumah Cr Bakom Ligong would get RM100,000 following Rundi’s visit over the weekend in Ulu Suai Niah.

Earlier at Rumah Alo, he launched the RM1.4 million Rural Electrification System (RES) project, which was completed at the end of October last year.

The project has benefitted the 21-door longhouse, which has nearly 80 residents.

Another longhouse he visited was Rumah Akai Anak Anggat in Nanga Merusa, Ulu Suai Niah.

At Rh Cr Bakom, Rundi, who is also Kemena assemblyman, handed out Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) flags stamped with the S-shaped ‘Kenyalang’ bird logo that reflected the party’s policy of ‘Sarawak First’.

Dr Rundi called upon villagers to give their undivided support to GPS, a local-based political alliance.

GPS consists of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).

“The ‘Sarawak First’ will be our main policy in protecting our rights.”

He also mentioned and explained the importance of protecting Sarawak rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

Citing Sarawak’s immigration autonomy, which is a non-negotiable matter under the MA63, Rundi said it was crucial for people to protect the rights.

He also advised people in the rural areas not to fall for one-sided stories, exaggerated claims or unhealthy propaganda.
