KUCHING: A search and rescue (SAR) operation for a missing man in Kanowit waters has been called off.
It would resume today, said a spokesman from the local fire and rescue department yesterday.
Carlos Paee and another friend David Lee were crossing the river with three others in a sampan on Sunday around 4.15pm.
They intended to look for fruits on the other side. Carlos was swept away by strong currents but David and the rest managed to save themselves, aided by villagers.
Yesterday’s SAR operation by firefighters, police, villagers and civil defence force members covered some four nautical miles from where Carlos was last seen.
Meanwhile, another SAR in Lundu for an odd job labourer who went missing on Feb 23 was suspended due to bad weather.
The search, covering a radius of three kilometres from the man’s house, will continue today.
