BARU (seated fourth left) with PKR Kanowit Division new committee.

SIBU: Pakatan Harapan thinks it can win the next state election which is due in May 2021.

“I think we have the opportunity to win the next state election if we are united including our leaders at the grassroots levels. We (the leaders) need to give motivation and inspiration to all members in the whole state,” said PKR Sarawak president Baru Bian at the inauguration of its six divisional committees in the central region yesterday.

Baru who is also Works Minister believed that the 12th state election will be called in middle of 2020.

“Our focus at this juncture is to get ourselves ready for the 12th State Election which I believe will be called in mid 2020,” he said.

He said in preparation for the state election PKR would be finding ways and means to help all of its divisions in the state especially on funding matter.

“I am giving the assurance that I am aware of what is happening on the ground and we will try our best to assist you,” he added.

The state is under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) which won 72 of the 82 seats contested in the last state election under the Barisan Nasional banner.

Baru said the euphoria had been good for the state PKR as after GE14 it is top in the country with the most number of new members.

“I think we are the most multi-racial and most accepted party in the country especially in Sarawak. About 3,000 people have applied to join us after GE14,” he added.

Baru also refuted allegation that he was not committed in fighting for the return of the state’s rights as enshrined in Malaysia Agreement 1963 (M63).

“Many people had questioned us on our stand on MA63. People said we are silent on the matter. What we have done is that we have formed a special committee. We also have a technical committee which had already met two to three times to look into issues in MA63 within six months time. So don’t be quick to accused PH government of not doing anything on MA63,” he added.
