TATAU: A total of RM17,000 in Minor Rural Project (MRP) grants has been allocated to Rumah Andrew at Nanga Belawit, Ulu Anap here, as part of the Sarawak government’s ongoing commitment to uplift rural communities.

The Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) of Rumah Andrew received RM12,000, while the women’s bureau of the longhouse was awarded RM5,000.

The announcement was made by Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department, Datuk Seri John Sikie Tayai, during the ‘mangkong tiang’ ceremony held at Rumah Andrew on Thursday.

“This is a reflection of the government’s commitment to rural development, and its support for local leadership and women’s empowerment,” he said.

He also reaffirmed that the state government, under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, remains concerned about the needs and welfare of the people.

“Among the aspects given attention include basic facilities such as roads, water and electricity supplies as well as improved communication networks,” he said.

In line with these efforts, plans are also underway to upgrade the road to Ulu Anap through the Mid-Rajang Regional Development Agency (MiRRDA) and Bintulu Rural Development Committee (BIRDCOM).

Rumah Andrew is one of two new longhouses built by residents following a fire that destroyed the original Mawang 21-door longhouse in January 2018.

The other longhouse is Rumah Pajih.
