KUCHING: Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew has stated that visiting open houses during Hari Raya Aidilfitri is a tradition he maintains.

He noted that the gathering of different ethnic groups to celebrate together represents the true joy of this special occasion.

“Hari Raya Aidilfitri is not only a significant celebration for Muslims marking the end of Ramadan but also a moment to reflect on the spirit of inclusivity, unity and harmony in society,” he said.

“Every festive season, Sarawakians continue to demonstrate goodwill by celebrating together, making the state a prime example of racial harmony, tolerance and unity.”

Ting, who is Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Deputy Minister, added that the tradition of visiting one another, regardless of race and religion, truly reflects the joy of the celebration.

“Especially during Aidilfitri, we not only get to understand Malay cultural celebrations more closely but also cherish moments of togetherness and happiness.”

He said during festive seasons, open houses are hosted by various communities, inviting friends to enjoy festive dishes together and strengthen bonds of friendship, to which he added, is the most important value in Sarawak’s multicultural society.
