SARATOK: A middle-aged man was killed after being struck by a car while changing lanes along Kilometre 50.4, Jalan Sarikei-Betong today.

Saratok Police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said the accident, involving a Toyota Camry and a Honda Wave motorcycle, happened at around 4.30 pm near the Pusa junction.

Investigations revealed that the collision happened when the motorcycle suddenly switched lanes into the path of the Camry, which was heading towards Kuching from Sarikei.

“The Camry driver attempted to avoid the crash but was unable to do so due to the close distance, resulting in a collision.

“As a result, the rider identified as Mohamad Idrus Mus, 51 from Kampung Tengah Meludam, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

“His body was later taken to Saratok Hospital for further action,” he said.

The 48-year-old driver escaped unharmed in the accident.

Mathew said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
