Missing man found drowned after falling into Batang Igan

MUKAH: An electrical wiring company worker, who was reported missing after falling into Batang Igan from his boat on Wednesday, was found drowned last night (Mar 28).

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the body of Saffuan Zaffari, 30, was discovered by the villagers at 7.36 pm.

Rescuers retrieved the body about 1km from where he fell into the river, and handed it over to the police for further action.

Following the discovery, the search and rescue (SAR) operation was called off at 8pm.

The incident happened at around 2 pm on Wednesday when Saffuan’s boat hit a driftwood and caused him to be thrown into the river near Kampung Bungan Kecil.

Firefighters from Mukah station along with the marine police, Civil Defence Force (APM) were dispatched to the scene, about 48km away, to commence the operation.
