SIBU: Police are on the hunt for a suspect after a viral video captured a man launching a barrage of fireworks directly at a crowd at an eatery along Jalan Lanang here.

Police are also looking for witnesses to assist with investigation.

Sibu Police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said that a report was lodged on March 28 at approximately 4.05 pm regarding the reckless act.

“The case is being investigated under Section 6 of the Explosives Act 1957.

“If convicted, the offender could face up to seven years in prison, a RM10,000 fine, or both,” he said in a statement today.

The footage, uploaded by ‘Amazing Sarawak’ on Facebook, is one minute and eight seconds long, and shows a white Proton Wira driven by an unidentified man, who can be seen setting off the fireworks in the direction of unsuspecting diners.
