KUNMING (China): Strong tremors were felt in several cities across southwest China’s Yunnan Province, which borders Myanmar, after a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar at 2.20 pm on Friday.

No casualties have been reported in Yunnan so far, Xinhua News Agency reported.

Many residents in the provincial capital, Kunming, rushed outdoors or remained outside to avoid potential danger after experiencing the tremors.

Li Zhihao, a resident of Jinghong in the Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, which shares a border with Myanmar, said he felt the tremors lasting for nearly a minute.

The epicentre was located at 21.85 degrees north latitude and 95.95 degrees east longitude, according to the China Earthquake Networks Centre.

The quake struck at a depth of 30 km, the centre added.

A strong 7.7-magnitude earthquake rocked Myanmar’s Sagaing region on Friday, followed 12 minutes later by a 6.4-magnitude quake, according to international media reports quoting the US Geological Survey (USGS). – BERNAMA-XINHUA
