Early Quranic education shapes morally upright generation

MATU: Delaying Quranic literacy could hinder children’s ability to grasp fundamental Islamic teachings, ultimately affecting their moral and spiritual development, warns Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department for Integrity and Ombudsman, Datuk Mursyid Diraja Dr Juanda Jaya.

He emphasised that ensuring children acquire Quranic literacy from an early age is crucial in cultivating a knowledgeable and ethically grounded generation.

“If children do not learn to read the Quran in primary school, they will face greater challenges in secondary school and later in adulthood, where they may feel increasingly disconnected from fundamental Islamic teachings,” he stated.

Juanda made these remarks while officiating at the 2025 Matu District Level Khatam Al Quran Event at Matu District Mosque today.

He commended the event organisers, including the Matu District Office, the Matu District Celebration Committee, the Matu Islamic Welfare Trust Board, and the Matu District Mosque Committee, for their commitment to strengthening Quranic education.

He also expressed hope that similar programmes would be held annually across Sarawak.

Later, Juanda shifted his focus to road safety by attending the Mukah Division Road Safety Council Festive Season Campaign for Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2025 in Matu.

He participated in the symbolic handover of goodie bags to motorists while emphasising the importance of safe driving during the festive period.

The campaign, organised by PEMADAM Matu District in collaboration with the Mukah Division Road Safety Council, aims to reduce road accidents by promoting responsible driving habits, particularly during peak travel periods.
