KUCHING: The Sarawak government has allocated RM140 million under the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) to support non-Islamic religious communities, reaffirming its commitment to religious harmony and inclusivity.

Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap highlighted this during the birthday celebration of the San Sam Kuet Bong Temple, where he officiated at the event last night (Mar 22).

He stressed that Sarawak, as a multiracial and multi-religious state, upholds mutual respect, tolerance, and shared well-being under the GPS-led government’s framework, with these values embedded in the Post-COVID Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) to prioritise social inclusivity.

“Sarawak is unique because we are the only state in Malaysia where the government directly allocates a budget under UNIFOR, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Premier (Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg), to take care of other religions,” Yap stated.

Yap also noted that Sarawak’s strength lies in the unity of its people, stressing that the GPS-led government under Abang Johari is the most reliable force to safeguard the state’s legitimate interests.

“The continuous progress and development of Sarawak must be the priority of all Anak Sarawak, and this requires all of us to work together in close harmony and unity,” he added.

As a gesture of support, Yap announced a contribution of RM10,000 to assist with the temple’s activities.
