SARIKEI: Timuran Kembangan Sdn Bhd’s ‘Used Cooking Oil Purchase Campaign’ at Tamu Sentral here exceeded expectations, drawing a strong turnout in support of a greener, cleaner environment.

The campaign yesterday (Mar 21) attracted hundreds of local residents from diverse backgrounds, bringing their used cooking oil to contribute to the initiative.

Timuran Kembangan managing director Johnny Ting Su King expressed excitement over the overwhelming response.

“We were taken aback by the incredible enthusiasm shown by the community.

“Despite the event running from 2.30 pm to 5 pm the turnout was beyond anything we could have imagined,” Ting shared with Sarawak Tribune.

In exchange for every kilogram of used cooking oil collected, participants received RM2.90 in cash — a simple yet effective way to encourage recycling and responsible disposal.

This campaign marks the first of its kind in the Sarikei division, following similar events held previously in Kuching and Sibu.

Ting hinted at plans to expand the initiative further across other areas in the state.

“This initiative is not just about recycling. It’s about instilling a deeper sense of environmental responsibility within the community.

“Such campaigns not only raise awareness but also inspire collective action towards protecting our planet,” Ting explained.
