KUCHING: Hope Place has stepped in to provide continuous food aid to Achui Mohammad.

The 56-year-old man is struggling with severe health issues while living alone in a small self-built hut at Kampung Sijiram, Kota Samarahan.

According to Hope Place, Achui, who suffers from diabetes and kidney problems, has been unable to afford medical follow-ups due to financial constraints.

“His condition has worsened over time, leaving his legs swollen and mobility dependent on a walking cane due to a past accident.

“Without sufficient funds, he has stopped taking necessary medications and relies on e-hailing services or friends for transportation when needed,” said the non-governmental organisation (NGO) in a statement today.

Previously working as a security guard, Achui had to give up his rented room in Padungan here when his health deteriorated.

Now, he survives in a 12-by-12-foot hut without electricity or running water, relying on a small solar panel and rainwater collection.

Occasionally, he receives water from his nearby brothers’ homes, and his sisters-in-law visit him out of concern.

However, he remains largely unaware of social welfare assistance programmes and currently depends on his dwindling EPF (Employees Provident Fund) savings.

Moved by his plight, Hope Place is providing Achui with regular basic food aid.

The NGO continues to appeal for public support to help individuals like Achui.

Those who wish to contribute can reach Hope Place at 082-505987 or 013-5672775.

Donations can also be made directly to its Maybank account (MBB: 511289001160) or via Sarawak Pay/S Pay Global QR code on its Facebook page.

Receipts will be issued upon request.
