SIBU: The Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) will host this year’s Earth Hour 2025 Virtual Programme, an annual global event that unites people in support of environmental sustainability and climate action.
According to the organising chairman councillor Kevin Lau, the initiative is supported by AmcorpSibujaya, Sarawak Sports Corporation, Junior Chamber International (JCI) Seduan, JCI Sibu, and JK Studio.
“The Earth Hour 2025 Virtual Programme will take place on Saturday, March 22, from 7 pm to 10 pm at the Sibu Jaya Public Library.
“The highlight of the event, the symbolic ‘lights off’ moment, will occur from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm, serving as a reminder of the role individuals and organisations play in conserving energy and protecting the environment,” he said in a press conference yesterday (March 14).
He added that Deputy Premier cum Minister for Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian will officiate the event virtually.
“This year, 23 local councils across Sarawak have confirmed their participation, making it one of the largest Earth Hour events hosted by local authorities in the region,” he added.
