KUCHING: Sarawak is working towards integrating all travel packages into a single system to provide a seamless journey for visitors to the state.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said digitalisation in travel packages is crucial to enhancing the visitor experience.

“If someone wants to visit Sarawak, let’s say from Frankfurt, Germany, they can buy a ticket there, and all travel segments will be integrated under one system.

“Then from the moment a traveller leaves their home to board a flight in Frankfurt, including arrival at our airport, boarding the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART), and checking into a hotel – all in one go.

“If we can make this happen, we will be the first to have such an integrated package in Sarawak,” he said during the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) Integrity Day and breaking of fast event at a hotel here last night (Mar 15).

Abang Johari added that the state government has already taken steps to enhance the tourism industry, including projects like the ART and its own airline, AirBorneo.

“Furthermore, we are also going to develop a sophisticated new airport with advanced security features,” he said.

In addition to the new airport, he said the state is also planning to build a new port in Tanjung Embang.
