BINTULU: Industries operating at the Fifth Mile industrial area along Jalan Bintulu-Sibu have been urged to promptly clear waste and damaged equipment that have caused drainage blockages following a flash flood in the area a few days ago.
During a site visit with officers from the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) today, Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang Leong Ming identified the problem as being caused by the irresponsible disposal of industrial waste by certain parties.
He called on industrial players to take greater responsibility for maintaining the cleanliness of their surroundings.
“Rubbish and unwanted items must be disposed of immediately to ensure the drainage system functions properly.
“Only after the area is cleaned can the need to upgrade the drainage system be reevaluated,” he said.
Pang also proposed engagement sessions with industry representatives to raise awareness and prevent the recurrence of such issues.
Additionally, he mentioned that a periodic monitoring mechanism would be introduced, and enforcement action by the BDA would be considered if the problem persists.
“Monitoring will continue to ensure that the measures taken can resolve this issue comprehensively,” he added.
